    • 1930 - Odd Jobs

Saved my money from milking goats.  Got 10 cents a week I think.  When was in 5th grade, I had saved enough money that could buy a Wards Hawthorn Bike for $17.45.  Still have it.  I was very proud of the bike. Enjoyed riding all over the area within a 3 or 4 block radius.

Allen had a paper route.  I would occasionally go with him to deliver papers.  Had to wake up about 5 AM and go to the local delivery building.  Helped sort and fold papers and then ran route.  I would pull my little red wagon and Allen would throw the papers at the houses.  It was dark much of the time.  After the route, we sometimes would go to a local pie shop and get a cream pie and share it.  On the afternoon route, Allen would buy me a pop for 5 cents.  That was super.

Dad was always building home made radios and would try to get me interested in electricity.  He had old lights, light sockets, switches etc which he let me play with and try to wire up different things.  Also had old set of telephones which we could hook up and use to communicate.  We have those phones on the shelf in our sun room as well as the old truck.
