    • 1927 - Gloria

On August 8th, Virgie wrote another letter and the return address was called 1245 East Cleveland.  So I guess that other move was to East Cleveland.  The letter said we have moved, well I guess we moved twice in a month.  I don't know why I haven't got it in my Diary.  There is one vacant day there.  Maybe that is when we moved.  Any way, moving twice in one month is work.  We moved first to Thompson and then to 1245 East Cleveland.  We got it for $30 per month and it was a real nice house.  It was a 5 room bungalow with basement and a 2 car garage, paved driveway and really is nice.

Another letter on November 11th.  Wants the folks to come for Thanksgiving.  Allen is in the Kindergarten now.  Says the teacher spanks them all every day and says Allen doesn't cry.  Virgie was breaking bread.  Linus wants me to get a girl to wash for the rest of the winter.  She was pregnant with Gloria at this time.  Linus was out of town much lately.  Allen ties knots in his shoe strings so they won't come out of his shoes.

Commercial radios are coming on and being advertised at this time.  I had ordered one from Golden Leaf and we had gotten it because the letter tells we had gotten Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles and many more stations.  We are running on 5 tubes.  Apparently that was the last stage of audio.  I think it had 3 stages of tuned radio frequency and 2 stages of audio.  These tuned radio frequency sets, in case anyone doesn't know about them in those days, were tuned by 3 dials to get the station.  In other words, this was sort of a hunt and peck operation.  You didn't know where it was, you were just groping for it.  Of course after you got a station, you used a log so you could turn all 3 dials to get back to the same place to get the station again.

On Feb 22nd, a note here says I heard Coolidge's speech at Rensler's.  Rensler was the District Manager & he had a big high powered General Electric set that used 400 volts on the tube plate.  We listened to the speech at his house.  That was made by Coolidge.  I don't know whether he was President or before he was President.  I'll have to figure that out.

On Feb. 27, Sunday, my note on it says snowed all day.  I suspect we were probably getting ready for something because the next day is Mon According to my diary, on February 28, at 7:00 AM, Gloria Virginia born.  That really was a big day in our lives.  It was still snowing on the morning when she was born.  Her Aunt Mable  came to West Tulsa on the Frisco Railway.  I drove through the snow to pick her up.  About all I can say is we were very, very happy with our daughter.  I wish we had more details written down that we could say about it.  Will say that the Lord was good to us.  We wanted a boy first and we got a boy.  Then we wanted a girl and we got a girl.
