The Chicken Coop Has Arrived
woodstrehl published on February 22, 2026We decided with our daughter, Elley, to get some chickens this year. Of course that has been a project. The chickens are ordered and the first batch of 6 will arrive in April. They will need a house. Before the end of the year we placed an order for the coop. In early February, Lancaster Chicken Coops told us it was ready. However, there has been more snow this year than expected. Finally we settled on delivery February 27 despite another 12 inches of snow on top of our present 12 inches of coverage. Chuck had already cleared a path across the front of the yard to the back which the coop will rest under the maple tree. Both of us worked to remove the extra snow.
On the morning of the 27th, a Mr. Stolzfus arrived with a long tractor trailer with the coop and a Mule (a motorized device on wheels) that could lift and pull the coop along the path we had shoveled. It was quite exciting when the coop almost tipped over as the Mule rounded the corner of the house! Fortunately Mr. Stolzfus had a jack and his expertise to negotiate and set the coop on the pad that Chuck had leveled and cleared in the back yard. It was an adventure!

Now our chickens will have a home.
