Tom submitted on January 14, 1970I see that the embattled president of Harvard has resigned. Chicago is looking for a new president. the Harvard students loved this guy and he was critical of grade inflation. Also he is an economist (something dear to Chicago's heart). Maybe chicago should consider this guy--although he might be too ambitious for other things to consider the job.
If this is Tuesday, it must be... Florida!

Anne and Chuck submitted on January 14, 1970February 20, 2006 Ochlockonee State Park, Sopchoppy, Florida Arrived here last evening. Lovely park in pine flatwoods on the shore of a river of the same name “Ok-LOK-nee”. It is situate between the large St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge to the east and the Appalachicola National Forest to the West. The Gulf of Mexico is nearby to the south and Tallahassee is 25 miles north. We are in that part of Florida where the state runs east and west. We are about 35 miles from the Central Time Zone which crosses Florida (really). As with Cedar Key, the coast line here is a bit indefinite. The land is largely swamp and marsh with pine islands and oak hammocks. The rivers wind and branch as they approach the Gulf and make all of the coastal area islands. Eventually ponds are scattered across the land and finally the land is scattered across the bays and Gulf waters. Beaches are rare and much of the “coastline” submerges at low tide. There is no shortage of wetlands here, it is the drylands that are precious and being lost to development!
Sunday at Estero Beach
MarkD submitted on January 14, 1970Margaret, Tony, Anna and Emily arrived last night and came over to Mom and Dad Woods for dinner and to watch the Olympics. Bob and Cathy and John and Karen arrived late last night. MH and I, Mom and Dad Woods and my parents are all spendng a relaxing day on the beach. It is in the 80s with bright blue skies and a cool breeze that makes you forget how hot it really is.

Patty submitted on January 14, 1970Schenectady placed sixth in the team standings---beatings its previous high of 1th--and got third place efforts from its 200 free relay group (citing David and his team members)...Schenectady set nine school records over the three-day competition.
RMR, it must be North Carolina
Kara submitted on January 14, 1970So today and yesterday were absolutely lovely. Sunny and warm. It was nice but now I wish I were down in the heat of Florida. I'll be sad to leave the luke warm weather in NC for the frigid weather in NY, but happy to be home. This morning I had a Resting Metabolic Rate Test, or RMR. I had to fast for 12 hours and then go over to the Duke Center for the Living where they did the test. They put me in a semi-dark room and put a hard plastic bubble around my head. I then waited, sat still and rested, but didn't fall asleep, for 30 minutes. The test measures your breathing and somehow they are able to calculate the amount of calories you would burn in a day if you just sat on your butt. My RMR was completely average. This information is helpful for planning out calories and exercise once I get home.

MarkD submitted on January 14, 1970We have arrived after a day of flying. Had a nice dinner at the Sweet Tomatoes to celebrate Mom and Dad Woods Anniversary and our arrival in Florida. The weather is in the 80s and much different from what we left in NYC. We are trying out the pool at Heritage Cove and then go to a concert tonight by a local muscian called Paul Todd. We are looking forward to seeing many others here shortly.
February 16, 2006 "It must be Cedar Key"
Anne and Chuck submitted on January 14, 1970This will be short, because the only access here is in the library. Cedar Key is a delightful old time fishing village, that is now starting to be developed. Many of the properties are >$500,000 now and I'm afraid the character of the town will change. With the help of friendly neighbors at the Sunset Isle RV Resort we got parked and hooked up to all utilities for the first time:water, electric sewer and cable(a luxury for Anne who loves the Olympics). We've been to all the state and national wildlife preserves in the area and have been birding daily. We 'dipped' (did not find) the Red Cockated Woodpecker which we have searched for in all the right places for 5+years.
Villanova basketball
Mike submitted on January 14, 1970I hope some of you got to watch the Villanova vs. UConn game the other night, it was intense! Villanova beat the #1 team in the country and there were many lead changes back and forth that made for an exciting game. Keep an eye out on Nova basketball, this is our best chance to go all the way in a long time.
